Koubou
Terms and Conditions
Last updated: August 31, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Koubou, a product of AtMyBase LLC ("we," "our," or "us"). These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of our website at koubou.tools and all related services, features, content, and applications (collectively, the "Services").
By accessing or using our Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Services.
2. Description of Services
Koubou is a personal, local-first, AI-assisted creative studio that runs in your web browser. It provides a workbench for documents and projects together with reusable tools for context, instructions, structure, and process. The specific tools available may change over time, and we reserve the right to add, modify, or remove tools at our discretion.
Koubou does not include AI credits. To use the AI-assisted features you connect your own provider, such as an OpenRouter account or a compatible local Ollama instance. Those providers bill you directly under their own terms, and their capabilities, pricing, and availability are outside our control.
3. User Accounts
Accounts are created using Google authentication, which provides us only your display name and email address. We do not create or store a Koubou password. You are responsible for maintaining access to the Google account you sign in with and for all activity that occurs under your Koubou account.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it accurate, current, and complete.
4. Purchase and License
Koubou is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
There is no recurring charge, no billing cycle, and nothing to cancel. Tax or VAT may apply based on your location.
Your purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Koubou. The license does not expire on a schedule and will not be billed again. It is issued to one person: you may install and use Koubou on the devices you personally use, but you may not share, resell, sublicense, or transfer your license key to anyone else.
Purchases are handled by our reseller and merchant of record, Polar Software, Inc. ("Polar"). Polar processes the payment, applies any tax, issues your receipt, and provides a customer portal where your license key is available. Your purchase is also subject to Polar's buyer terms, which are presented to you at checkout.
Access to Koubou requires a valid license key and sign-in. We may deactivate a license key that we reasonably determine has been shared, resold, or obtained fraudulently, or that is used in breach of these Terms.
5. Refunds
Purchases carry a 14-day money-back guarantee. Please refer to our Refund Policy for the full terms and for how to make a request.
6. Intellectual Property Rights
The Koubou application, website, name, logo, and the content and functionality we supply are the exclusive property of Koubou or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, republish, or transmit the material that makes up the Services without our prior written consent. This does not restrict anything you create with Koubou, which is covered by the next section.
7. Your Content
Your work is yours, and we do not store it.
Koubou is local-first. Your projects, documents, notes, and tools are held in your browser's own storage on your device, not in a Koubou database.
You retain all ownership of the content you create, import, or store using Koubou. We claim no license over it, and because your creative workspace is not stored on our servers, we do not receive, host, display, or process it.
Some actions you choose to take do transmit specific content off your device: sending a prompt to an AI provider transmits the material that prompt resolves to, and using optional Google integrations transmits the documents or backup data involved. Those transfers happen at your direction, go to that third party rather than to us, and are governed by that third party's terms.
Because your workspace lives in your browser, you are responsible for backing it up. Clearing your browser data or moving to another machine can leave the workspace behind. Koubou provides backup and restore tools for this purpose, described in the application's help library.
You represent and warrant that your use of Koubou and the content you create with it do not violate any third-party rights, including intellectual property and privacy rights, and comply with these Terms and all applicable laws.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use our Services:
- For any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- To infringe upon or violate the intellectual property rights or any other rights of anyone else.
- To attempt to interfere with, compromise the system integrity or security of, or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers running our Services.
- To circumvent, disable, or tamper with license validation, or to use Koubou without a valid license.
- To share, resell, sublicense, or publish your license key.
- To engage in any conduct that restricts or inhibits anyone else's use or enjoyment of the Services.
9. Availability and Changes
We aim to keep Koubou working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the website, licensing service, or optional integrations. Third-party services that Koubou connects to, including AI providers and Google, may change or withdraw their functionality at any time, which can affect features that depend on them.
Because Koubou runs in your browser and stores your work on your device, your existing workspace and your ability to export it do not depend on our servers being reachable.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
OUR SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING OUT OF COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT OUR SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
Koubou does not guarantee the quality of AI-assisted output. Results depend on your source material, your instructions, the model and provider you choose, and your own review and editing. You remain responsible for what you publish.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICES.
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR YOUR KOUBOU LICENSE.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Koubou and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees and costs, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of our Services or your violation of these Terms and Conditions.
13. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of our Services after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the modified Terms.
14. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Iowa, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms and Conditions shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. The arbitration shall be conducted in the State of Iowa, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.
15. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the licensing service and to koubou.tools if you materially breach these Terms, including the acceptable use and license terms above. Because your workspace is stored on your own device, terminating access does not delete your work, and you can continue to export it using Koubou's backup tools.
You may stop using Koubou at any time. As there is no subscription, there is nothing to cancel.
16. Contact Information
